Pad Man released last Friday and showed good trending over the first weekend. It was expected to earn Rs 10 crore and more. The film managed to earn that easily. Saturday and Sunday were even bigger but post the opening weekend, the collections dipped considerably. First Monday collections of just Rs 5.87 crore rang many alarm bells for the film which is apparently made at a budget of Rs 70-80 crore. But thanks to Mahashivratri holiday yesterday, there was a slight rise in collection. That helped the film cross the Rs 50 crore mark at the box office.
Taran Adarsh revealed the figures saying, “#PadMan crosses ₹ 50 cr mark… Fri 10.26 cr, Sat 13.68 cr, Sun 16.11 cr, Mon 5.87 cr, Tue 6.12 cr. Total: ₹ 52.04 cr. India biz.” As you can see, collections saw an upward trend yesterday. It might see another boost today since it’s Valentine’s Day. Last year too, this day helped Akshay’s Jolly LLB 2 post a really big number of around Rs 9.07 crore. So there are chances for the film to end the first week on a decent note. As for the film being a success, there’s still time to figure that out. Check out the numbers again here…. The biggest Valentine’s Day grosser is Ranveer Singh’s Gunday with Rs 16.12 crore in its kitty on that day. Yes, it is quite surprising but it’s a fact. Ranbir Kapoor’s flop film Roy takes the second spot followed by Jolly LLB 2. So, Akshay’s first competitor is he himself. It will be interesting to see what happens today!
